Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening

Minnesota law requires all children to be screened before kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening is a process that supports children in being ready for kindergarten. This screening process helps find possible health or developmental concerns that may impact a child's learning. The screening includes a check of vision and hearing, child development, and a review of a child's health.

Age 3 is the recommended age for this health and developmental screening. If you child is older than 3 and has not been screened, give us a call today!

Early Childhood Screening appointments are held at Jefferson Learning Center. If you have not received information in the mail by the time your child is 3 1/2, please call us at 320-231-8490.

What do I do if I have a child younger than 3 that I have concerns about?

While all children grow and change at their own rate, sometimes you may have concerns that your child is developing differently than other infants or toddlers of the same age. If you have concerns, you can call 1-866-693-GROW or visit http://www.helpmegrowmn.org.

Once a referral is made to the local early intervention program where you reside, you will be contacted to arrange for a FREE screening to determine if your child is eligible for FREE Help Me Grow Infant and Toddler Intervention Services.

This program is funded in part through the MN Department of Health, MN Department of Education, and the MN Department of Human Services.
