Early Childhood Screening

Is your child 3 years old?  Then it's time for screening!  Willmar Public Schools Early Childhood Screening is a check on how your child is growing and developing.  We screen children ages 3-5 years.  Early Childhood Screening is required for entrance into kindergarten.

At your child's screening a trained professional will check your child's:

  • Health History
  • Shot Records
  • Vision and Hearing
  • Height, Weight and Growth
  • Large and Small Muscles
  • Thinking, Language and Communication Skills
  • Social and Emotional Development

Early Childhood Screening appointments are held at Jefferson Learning Center.  If you have not received information in the mail by the time your child is 3 1/2, please call us at 320-231-8490.

What do I do if I have a child younger than 3 that I have concerns about?

While all children grow and change at their own rate sometimes you may have concerns that your child is developing differently than other infants or toddlers the same age. If you have concerns you can call 1-866-693-GROW or visit http://www.helpmegrowmn.org.

Once a referral is made to the local early intervention program where you reside, you will be contacted to arrange for a FREE screening to determine if your children is eligible for FREE Help me Grow Infant and Toddler Intervention services.

This program is funded in part through the MN Dept. of Health, MN Dept. of Education and MN Dept. of Human Services.
